Fujifilm X10 Autumn Park Images

This week while shooting with the Fujifilm X10 I captured a few fall scenes.  The colors are holding here as we enjoy some 60+ degree temps in late November.  The camera is a joy to use and I love the compact size, great file and fast AF and release.

One of the other things folks are talking about which I am testing and enjoying is the Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord with the X100 and the EF-20.  The TTL functions are working fine and the off camera flash function is truly a welcome gift.  I look forward to seeing all the nifty brackets people design for the X100 and X10.
The Park is always buzzing with photographers and while I was taking some snaps I saw a woman who was breastfeeding her baby while a wedding couple was doing their portraits.  As we all know we have to work with the light and the scene to make the most of it.  Only in NY!

Happy post Thanksgiving feast!
This week I had a good time shooting at a christening for a friend of mine.  I knew before I went that I wanted to try an overview of the scene but I didn't know I'd get lucky with the composition and have an amazing view to capture.
I put my camera with a fish-eye lens on the monopod and used the self-timer to lift it up and hope for a good view from above.  The 180 degree angle captured it all and hopefully you enjoy the shot for its merits and look.

Nice to get lucky and shoot when another strobe fires

Weekly Email - 11-18-11 After and Before

This week has been a combative and tumultuous one for the folks involved in Occupy Wall St.
The lower part of the City has been involved in several protest marches and constant police clashes and surveillance from the ground and air.
It was pretty dramatic the other day when the police swept in at 1am and cleared the park.  Lucky for me I happened to go to the park the night before to update some of my overview shots.  So here I present the changing of the seasons and look of Zucotti Park.

There is dramatic change in both the tents and leaves.  Note the early scene on September 21 when the ground was visible.
So no politics here - you just had to be there to fully grasp the amazing encampment erected by the OWS people - which is gone now and the park was swept clean in a few hours.

Occupy Wall Street Last View

Sunday evening I went down to check out the OWS encampment.  It is really a lot to take in with the maze of tents and functional sections with a wide diversity of activites.
This morning I woke up to the sound of helicopters and the news reports that at 1am the police dismantled the OWS site to clean the park.   I don't know the exact details of course - but I am sure it was a mess and a lot of stuff was thrown out and dozens of people arrested.  I'm sure it wasn't done gingerly since there is a ton of stuff as you'll see below.  Now what's next?

Weekly Email 11-11-11 Shake and a Smile

Living in a neighborhood for many years you get to know some of the familiar faces and characters in the area.
One of the guys who hundreds if not thousands know is Melville the shake guy.  He works in Lifethyme - one of the local grocery stores and has quite a following.
Melville always has a cheery attitude and makes your shake with a smile.  Check him out sometime.

The image was tweaked using Topaz imaging software since I felt the abstract look and the colors of the scene add flavor.

The B&W shot is Mickey who is one of the local delivery guys.  He's been chugging along on his bike for more than a decade in all weather!

Then the last is Tom Sachs who I've known since the baby stroller days in Central Park.  Bumped into him at O Cafe in the hood, and with the X10 in hand made a quick shot and tweak.  Always helpful to have the camera with you!  See Tom's latest show at -Tom Sachs @ Sperone Gallery

Fujifilm X10 NYC Marathon

I brought the X10 to shoot at the NYC Marathon yesterday.  Some basic shots around the track area on the west side, from ISO 100-800.

I think this video shows a good overview of the X10 and its main features. A solid camera!

A Quick Look at the 1972 Hasselblad 500C/M

Just a few snaps of the awesome and durable 500C/M.
