Bronx Botanical Garden Orchid Show

The annual orchid show at the NY Botanical Garden in the Bronx is a great start to spring.  Walking through the amazing conservatory is always an enjoyable experience.

The amount of cameras and phones are of course exploding so any trip needs to have the right combo of time and patience to work your way through the crowds.

I decided to push myself to work on some macro photos to eliminate the people from many of my images.  Here are a some bright colors to start the day.

I went out with a full bag of gear.  Fujifilm X-T1, XF56, XF60mm, XF18-55 & XF55-200.  Along with my EF-20 flash.

I decided to play a little bit with the double exposure mode in the camera.

Jamaica Travels and Camera Fun

The weather in the NYC area has teased us with mid 60's and then plunging back to the 20's.  A great time to getaway to the tropics. 
With a quick trip to Jamaica I got to relax and give my photos a fresh look from the gray city streets.  The images below are all shot with the Fujifilm X-T1.

I walked the beach with a light set of gear.  The Fujifilm X-T1 and the XF23 and XF56mm lenses were my go to lenses.  I did bring the XF14mm and XF55-200 - but never put the zoom on and barely used the XF14.  I really could have traveled with two lenses making the weight and ease a pleasure.

 

The tough part about being in this area is knowing that we tourists are responsible for the some of the survival of the people running the businesses on the beach.  The independent vendors selling trinkets and fruit must sell to eat.  Certainly I don't think they are hurting this time of year - but they must plan for the slower summer season.  So when I engage in a photo opp it may also involve a purchase.  Which after a while can be tough to do - but what I've found is that with the Instax camera I can alleviate this 100% and although it is a blatant advertising plug - the Instax can make someone's day and improve your photographic experience.  I reviewed the Instax Mini 90 here -

 This guy was an easy one.  I had shot a photo of him last visit and brought him a 5x7 of himself so he was all ready to pose and prep for photos coming back to him next visit.

 A fun part of the trip was a sunset cruise on a nice boat with a great staff.
