Fujfiilm X-T1 with XF56mm Lens Aperture Range

Let's take a quick look at how each aperture changes the depth of field in an image.  A simple routine to test.  You can decide which look you prefer - of course every scene has a different feel - and this is just one basic look at the aperture range.
These were shot at F/ 1.2, 1.8, 2.8, 4.0, 5.6, 8.0, 11, 16.
