This week I was lucky enough to capture three interesting scenes.

I've always thought the tennis courts at Stevens are situated in a neat spot and this shows them off.
There was an amazing sunset glow over Louse Point near Amagansett.
And lastly, I've always wondered how a tree grows out of the side of a building - but it does.

One of the neat events which happen in the area during the summer are the outdoor movies.

There are several locations where they occur and one of the neat ones due to its unique view is in Hoboken.

For about 35 years the diner on my corner - Joe Juniors - has been a neighborhood landmark.  As I type this I can smell the bacon on the grill wafting in my window.   It seems they are in a dispute with our landlord and are slated to close this weekend.   News trucks have been by and there is a petition etc etc.

It's hard to imagine they won't be there to feed the neighborhood - and I'm not yet sure something won't break last minute since by the look of the video on ny1.com you can see the father (landlord) is admitting that his son is making a bad decision - and as a tenant having dealt with the son for some time there's no surprise there.

Here are a few shots showing the character of the place many of you probably know.

This week two neat things happened.

First was as Neal and I entered a bride's house I couldn't help but feel I was at a filming location for a NJ Housewives series.  This home was huge and the entryway just screamed out for a fish-eye shot of the family - so here you have that classic family shot.

Then to prove how much the internet folks track what we are doing I saw the other item attached.

This week I shopped at Brooks Brothers for a new suit and clothes.  Later in the week I had to look up some details of a digital camera and low and behold the ads pushed to me were from Brooks Brothers!  Now of course they should have said thanks for your recent purchase - but instead were touting the sale I just went to....

Either way - they "knew" I was "looking" there and someone paid to have the ads served to me on the most unlikely website from UK - www.dpreview.com.  I thought it was a neat occurrence considering the combination of ads with the camera site.

This week I had two surprises.

One was Thursday night when Todd called and asked if I wanted to shoot Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire at the Garden.  I wasn't sure what I should do but decided to give it a whirl since I haven't shot a band in some years.  It turned out to be a great show and both groups have more hits than I can remember!  Attached are photos of Robert Lamm and Verdine White.  These two founding members have been playing with their respective groups for 40+ years!  The song list for each group, and the combined sets were amazing.  These two groups have combined sales of over 200,000,000 albums/cd's.

The second occurrence has to do with the "found camera" story.  What a lesson in the cost of bandwidth!  I had no idea how many people were passing along the story of the lost camera (thanks to all of course)!  My usual monthly charge is $19.95 for web hosting.  Last billing cycle due to increased traffic and over 200,000 hits (somehow registered) my bandwidth was exceeded by 18,950.63 megabytes times $0.02/per mb = $379.01 surcharge!!  So much for my pay it forward efforts - they may have bit me!  It's like the roaming charges of yesteryear with cell phones!  Ouch!

This week I was out on the Hudson one night and while we passed the Statue I was able to get a pretty good shot of her lit against the dark sky.

Certainly I can only imagine what this must have felt like to arrive in NY harbor decades ago by boat and see this statue looming in the distance and know that you've just about made it to America.

The second shot I just had to share.  Yesterday while working on a digital lab sale with my 150 line excel quote - the owner wanted to check some of the math.  There are tons of formulas and discounts and cross references to different items.  I asked for a calculator to show her how the numbers all end up how they do.  She checked my math on an abacus.  I swear i didn't think she was going to be able to keep up - but she did no problem.  It was amazing to watch.

After about 2 years of construction - Washington Square Park is now open!  The return of the park to full service, and a great renovation, brought out everyone!  The new design is wonderful and is much more people friendly.  More lounge areas and a lot more lawn space.  Interestingly enough one of the main design changes was to align the fountain with the arc.  Now all is in harmony.

This week I "met" a unique couple who stand in my hometown of Woodstock and just give the peace sign to passers-by.
They just hang out and do their thing.  There are stories of him with varying tales as - Grandpa Woodstock.
I thought their message and their look were worthy of sharing.  Who's beard do you like more?

It is done!!
Today I was able to return the lost camera to the family who dropped it while visiting here for a wedding.
This is how it was able to happen -

A photog friend recognized the minister in the rehearsal photos.
She contacted him and he gave her the info on the bride.
The bride was away on honeymoon until last Sunday - meanwhile lots of you helped with suggestions on the venue etc - and when she came back she confirmed she knew the people in the photos and the owners were relatives.
The bride's father-in-law lives in NJ about 3 miles from my office.  So after a bunch of emails with the bride I got the address in Metuchen and dropped the camera off there today.  The owners of the camera are indeed from Europe so the camera will be sent over to them soon.

Neat how the internet can work as easy as that!

Recently I shared emails about a bike theft and subway garbage.  This week I saw a neat follow up to both so thought I would share my thoughts.

In one photo I couldn't help but feel bad - yet chuckle - when I saw someone who obviously took great care to lock up their bike with 2 locks - but they forgot to lock the frame obviously.

The other photo has a real story about garbage.  Last week I noticed that underground, people were tossing their garbage anywhere - where above-ground people are taking much more care to balance their garbage in an overflowing can (I assume there are many factors to study with this).  I happened to catch the can as a guy passed by with his subway metrocard flying by - so I chose this frame for the added connection.

PS- Haven't found the camera owner yet - but still working on it.
