This week we all know about the snow that has come and gone.

Of course it was a photo paradise in the park and I shot a ton of images.
What to pick is always the question - so when looking around I noticed I had two shots from the Park which are about equal this week - except for the weather - so here is the before and during snow looks of the ice skating rink.

Sometimes you look at a photo and think - wow - was I once there? -  I don't remember it looking like that - etc.

This week as I reviewed some of the baby photos I shot of Cavan I thought just that.

We have the issues to think about like the economy, war, politics, terrorists, job, life etc - and all he has is eating, sleeping and poopping - maybe not so bad a gig right now!

We are looking at about 0 with the wind.

As many of you know there are several fun ice skating rinks in NYC.  One of the nice ones is at Bryant Park (on 40th/42nd and Sixth Ave behind the NYPLibrary).  They have a great facility and shopping area over the holidays. 

Last night I went by and they were tearing it down and I thought about the amazing change a day makes at the park and here you go!

This week I was tossing around what to use as my pick of the week and settled on a few shots I did in the subway.

The shots were done while standing on the platform and resting the camera on the steps.  The pattern of the steps and the subway background made for a neat shot - but I needed more.
So I shot the 2 shots here at wide open and stopped down.  (1.8 and 22 for the tech folks.)  Then I merged them with a color tweak in an animated gif.

This week while traveling in Nashville I stayed at the Gaylord Opryland hotel. It was a unique experience since I did not expect to be housed in a biosphere for 5 days! The place has ornate decorations and features such as the five story waterfall, boat tour (a la Willie Wonka chocolate river) and a suspended garden walk. The evening view is a shot from my balcony.
You wake up in the morning walk onto the terrace - and think you are going to feel sunshine - but you are actually of course still indoors - always.

Then as every photographer does - I got restless on the flight home and decided to try and get a decent shot in the mirror which is tough with the flash, so my cover up attempt worked out.

This week while in New Orleans I took a quick tour through the Ninth Ward area where the Katrina destruction was well reported.

There is some great progress in most respects for the housing and look of the area.  Many "green" programs and celebrity building sites have sprouted up.  But as today's photo shows - some of the area is still not quite back to anything we'd consider normal.  Many homes just stand partially erect awaiting a bulldozer.  Not an easy situation to recover from.

The streets of New Orleans were gonzo as one could imagine.

It is tough to pick just one that says Happy New Year - so these 3 out of 300 should get you in the mood for a great 2010!

Here are two images which share the spirit of the season both indoors and out.

It is hard to not be drawn to the holiday scene at Rockefeller Center during the holidays.  The place is really lit up with all sorts of activity.

So each year I try to do something a bit different when I capture the scene.  Here are two very different shots of the same place.  I'm still on the one fixed lens kick so most shots this week were with a 15mm lens.  It was hard to chose but here they are!

This week while walking around one night the sky was clear and the moon was shining bright.

As I checked out the moon I noticed the neat building pattern above.  So here we go with this week's picture.
