It's always amazing to me when you think about all the wires winding through a building to each apartment for the door buzzer and intercom.

In the photo here the building sure has some odd ways of naming apartments and listing them in order??

Since it's sort of a black and white day I also shot a neat tulip in the sun with its ragged edges.

We've all been exposed to the throng of 3D marketing this year.

The experience is of course quite neat and enjoyable in most situations.

This week Time Warner hosted a 3D Masters golf watching lounge.  The tv image looked great and the glasses were an easy accessory.

The crowd was the usual golf crowd but some did look a bit awkward in their big shades.

Then I thought about the photo of a guy dancing who practically dove over me and said that's my closest shot to 3D this week.  A little ghosting from shooting at 1/30 of a second.

This week I was playing with a new camera and seeing what can be done with a 30X zoom lens.

In Madison Square Park there is a neat installation of human-like sculptures placed on the ground and on 11 roofs around the park.  When you spot them your first reaction is someone is about to jump.....The look on faces as they try and find the 31 statues is neat - and it isn't easy - but once you spot one you're hooked.

In these pictures you can see the "guy" on 23rd street and then if you look up over his shoulder towards the Empire State Bldg you can see one on the corner of the ledge which is seen close up.

If you're in the area look for 11 at least!

NYC is a unique place where anything is usually possible.

One of the great events is the annual pillow fight.

A day where the police just let folks blow off steam whacking folks with pillows.
I caught the joker in the act as you'll see.

Here are some neat views of the event from Filene's Basement looking north.

This week the weather was all over the place.  Tons and tons of rain and now some bright sun and blue sky.  We started off with a crisp day last weekend with a low around 30 and now we will see a high of about 70.

With the nice weather I got to hit the woods and play some paintball with the Outlaw and Kingpin.  Going rogue in a field in NJ - we packed up our equipment and hit the road for Old Bridge.  There really is some strategy and exhilaration while being shot at by hyped-up combat dressed folks with paint guns spraying "pellets" of paint at 25 per second at you.  You do feel the sting - but not so bad after a the adrenaline wears off.  (hopefully you can see the spray of paint hitting the fence and headshot of green)

The other photo is the calm and crowded Washington Square Park on a sunny day with NYU students "studying".

Most of the skyline shots of NYC are from east to west since that clearly shows the breadth of the skyline.  This week I was lucky enough to get a great view looking south from 86th Street.  The night had a lot of clouds moving through and I would have loved to do a time lapse video - but this shot shows a dramatic view of the Hudson and NY and NJ.  Hopefully you can view on a good screen and see all the details you may recognize.

This week while walking around NYC I was struck by the light falling on the side of the wet trees in the rain.

The glistening blue was lit from above as the Empire State Bldg was off in the distance.

I knew there was a mist in the air so to illustrate what happens when you shoot with a flash in the rain - I shot a frame with the flash. 
Clearly not the right move for my tastes.

The non flash shot is dramatic in B&W as well.  The scene was perfect for a timeless NYC night scape.

A week in Vegas can certainly charge you up and wear you down.

With over 500 photos from the week to sort through - I tried to pick just a few classics to tell a tale.

The new City Center is a wild grouping of art and shopping worth seeing.  Ice sculptures, fountains, waterfalls and dramatic lines are everywhere.

Of course one thing we didn't expect is when we threw a party in the Terrace Suite at MGM (with an amazing view of the strip and a hot tub overlooking it all) that we'd end up with Hector in the tub with his mini rubber ducky. 

The technical side of this shot is that I had to shoot at ISO 800 1/13th of a second at f 1.8 with the fill flash to match the surprising foreground to the amazing background.

Last week I had a bit of the earthquake theme and this week I am shifting to the tsunami.

While on the pier shooting out to the horizon I turned to look to the coast and the light was breaking just right for this wave.  I can't imagine what a 26' or higher wave must be like for those on a ship or on land - but you can certainly get the feel.  The rumble and power of this little wave is impressive nonetheless.

This week I was lucky enough to take a few hundred mile drive up the California coast.  Or of course as we say - PCH (The 1 & 101).

It was always great to get out and walk on the beach or the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

So many of the piers are great places to take in the sights and this one at Hermosa Beach was a great walk on a long pier.
I just happened to notice that it had a long crack down the middle from all the hammering by the surf.  Makes you wonder when that last long walk on a short pier may come in a state rattled by earthquakes regularly.

This week I was at a fashion show and with all the frantic goings on I decided to do a before and after shot similar to last week's email.

One thing I immediately noticed that on just one side in a quick look there were at least 20 folks taping the show with their devices.  That's why I include the dark one and lighter one when full.

Then a little bit after the show everyone pours out to the after party.  It's really a neat thing - folks spend days setting it up and in about 12 minutes it's over.
